One Thing Leads to Another
Categorized under Once de Septiembre | Tags: Democrats, Impeachment Pie, Republicans, September 11
Wednesday's meeting was handicapped, of course, because no-one says aloud what the reasons are for opposing impeachment. That Cheney and Bush have committed impeachable offenses is universally understood. But the arguments against impeaching them (other priorities, bipartisanship, we don't have the votes, etc.) usually sound like lame cover for whatever the real reason is.
THE REAL REASON that the Dems will not hold Bush liable for anything nor chase any prosecution nor impeach—ever—is because they sit under a sooty Sword of Damocles. That is, at the bottom of this whole heap lies the unexplored crime of September 11. Nothing will make sense until that piece is finally added. And nobody wants to go there. Not only are many hands undoubtedly dirty in various ways, but one thing the elites (Left or Right) are unified in (in addition to never holding the Bush Administration's feet to the fire) is their fear of how this nation would react were it forced to face certain fact. And so they have a devil-signed waterproof bloodstained avoid-the-truth pact.
That's my take.

I think its because Bush got more power into the Executive Branch's hands, and the Demoncrates are salavating at the thought of being able to do what he did, but for their pet projects and friends.
They object to what Bush did, not how.
I object to what AND how.

I'm glad you mentioned the Towers. I remember seeing articles on the web being scrubbed right before my eyes the day after. ("Okay, reload and -- hey, what happened to that part about the eyewitness who saw the fuselage?!") True, this is part of the Dem's resistance.
Still, the real problem is a matter of class. Dems and Repugs are different parts of the same aristocracy. Dems are, frankly, the weaker of the two. They could be the stronger -- but to be stronger than the Repugs, they would have to cease to be aristocrats. Ergo, Edwards poll numbers are high but he has no backing from the elite and Kucinich is simply out. Dems know that they don't have the savvy to make impeachment possible because it would be used against them even more effectively.
And with good reason. Dems do things worthy of impeachment all the time. Check out the massive bait-and-switch on NAFTA; Clinton literally said that it would decrease illegal immigration. (I stabbed him to heal him, honest!) And Dems were dirty as hell on Iraq -- and, incidentally, on Afghanistan -- happily betraying the Constitution to wage The War That Seriously Got Our Rocks Off That Someone Else Will Have to Stop.
They swim in cleaner waters than us. They will always side with each other, no matter what the party, over us. Remember MoveOn and Patraeus? That wasn't a media snafu. That was the class struggle.
You ask why the Dems don't impeach Bush? Let me rephrase it -- you'll find the answer more easily then: ask me why dukes don't join with the commoners to dethrone their kings.

that's all true.
tho i dont really ask why they dont impeach. i offer my idea of why. i still feel it is the prevailing reason. the ones you offer make sense...but nothing quite weighs enough to balance out their criminally negligent lack of defense of the constitution of the united states and thus the blatant abdication of their duties of office. again, in my opinion.
