Strange Winters [mtv vlog 1-30-08]

Categorized under Artivism , Medios | Tags: , , , , , ,

THIS WEEK in Eugene, Oregon and the surrounding areas, there has been a lot of talk about the weather. But not in a mundane fashion, such as when you are having your gas pumped (remember that 'round here, you cannot pump your own gas, it is all full serve!) and offhandedly offer the station worker an observation about the local and eternal wintry curtain of rain.

No, the talk has been more along the lines of "what is going on with this weather?" Because the past couple of winters have brought an atypical amount of snow to this city west of the Cascade Mountains. In fact, 2008 has seen the most snowfall to hit Eugene, Oregon, since 1996.

Here's your faithful Street Team 08 Oregon rep with a short visual presentation of the latest strange winter to visit us.

Bangin piece, mano. Dig the minimalism, hehe. An open question of monumental proportions, but no frantic ideological grandstanding, just calm voices and vibrant evocative imagery. Allowing silence to speak. Offering attention not doctrine. Slick post production shit. Very well done. All ye other MTV street team members, despair! None can touch the House of Nez.

ah yeah...jeje. the minimalism! it fits in well because (good) films are largely about speaking through images.

and its funny, i shot the crow out of reflex, cuz dude was just chillin in front of my house like he wanted a word, so i got my camera and shot him. and then while editing it occurred to me s/he was a good symbol for the oncoming storm, this watcher that was in the skies and looking out over things. and when editing at a point in post messing with things i reversed the image and it was a white bird on black sky and i was like HEY ZUKY! and then i was like, oh i cant do that...plus the neg image was too heavy for that particular pivot point, but both reasons are why i went with a blueing sky behind instead (plus that leads into the blue night snow scenes)

Very nice. The imagery was very evocative. I loved the running water shots -- so beautiful.

The same thing has been happening in Northern California, where I live. Usually there's one or two days of snow every 5 years...but the past 3 years there have been between a week or two each winter, and this winter there might still be more to come. The thing is, some ignorant people that I know think that this is proof from God that there is no global warming, and that he is in control of the weather. Because you can't have warming when there's snow. The weather couldn't possibly be more complicated than that, right?

kick it, ése.
