I GUESS for my support of Obama, I'm now not only a "cultist," but also a birkenstock-wearing, latte drinking, trust-fund baby type of cat!
Interesante. I am a mystery even to myself.
Tom Buffenbarger president of the machinists' union (International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers) was the the latest in a string of Clinton junkyard dogs unleashed upon Obama. Prior to Hillary Clinton’s speech last night in Youngstown, Ohio, Buffenbarger delivered nothing short of an Obama diatribe.
While campaign introductions typically sing the praises of the upcoming candidate, Buffenbarger's speech barely mentioned Clinton until the conclusion. It was all about Obama, and it was laced with venom and ad hominems. [..]
But it was Obama supporters for whom Buffenbarger saved his most vitriolic contempt, and he proved that the Democratic Party’s coalition is nothing if not fragile. Channeling Howard Beale from the movie "Network," he yelled into the microphone, “Give me a break! I've got news for all the latte-drinking, Prius- driving, Birkenstock-wearing, trust fund babies crowding in to hear him speak! This guy won't last a round against the Republican attack machine. He's a poet, not a fighter.”
Because we know it is simply not possible for someone to be both a poet and a fighter, right?
Yeah, well. As I said before, it's safe to say that even the opposition is caught up in (gulp) Obamamania. And frankly, the way some obsess in their unrelenting opposition to him and in their haze of hostility, completely forget to push positive messaging about those they presumably prefer is, well...both creepy and cultlike.

Exactly. And I think that more than anything else, the Clintons just want to be in power.

latte-drinking? prius-driving? dude - that's THE BASE!!1
seriously - lifting scripts from REPUBLICAN attack ads from EIGHT YEARS AGO isn't what i'd call a winning strategy.
for better or for worse - the game is changing. i personally prefer neither coke NOR pepsi, but prefer either one of them to our current cocktail of gasoline and human blood.

Great minds think alike... Nezahuacoatl (the other Nezua, I mean) jumped to mind... as well as Mao Tsetung, Alvaro Obregon, Edmund Spenser and a host of other poet-warriors.
I wonder if Tom Buffenbarger realizes he's plaguarizing Petronius Arbiter's Satyricon (or at least the English subtitles to Federico Fellini's version thereof) with that "he's a poet, not a fighter" line. Hey, my high-class English degree -- and my own long-forgotten book of poetry -- sometimes are worth something, if only a snarky comment.

nice wrap up. and satyricon reference! booyah, my man. booyah.
also funny that he says "Barack Obama is no Muhammad Ali," thus mentioning yet another poet/fighter, but then goes right on to draw a false dilemma between the two. he's very confused. it's embarrassing.

Also, how do these angry hordes o' democrats not realize how creepy hypocritical they are to go from the battle cry "anybody's better than GW! we gotta get a democrat in there in 08 no matter WHO it is!!!" for the last two terms to "except the black guy!!!!" I mean for christ's sake already. I think you could technically call that a progression of sorts, but really, with the "progress" buzzword? Not so much.

i know. they don't see how strange it is, that switch. i've thought that too. some of these are people who used to argue ME against voting third party at all costs, suddenly now talking about how they have to do so for their own conscience. because obama is just SO bad. wow. how easily it can all switch up i guess.

That's very interesting -- poet versus fighter.
I wonder if it is such a strong cultural dichotomy after all!
It seems to relate to Marechera's book on The Black Insider (an intellectual novel) on which I have written here:

Got to see Obama this afternoon here in Corpus Christi. He was very impressive. If I had any second thoughts about voting for him, their gone now.
