I hadn't seen many videos from the State of the Black Union or heard much about it, sans Hillary Clinton's apology for something she once said she didn't do, but this video convinced me to hop over the to the C-Span archives to see what I missed (morning session, afternoon session).

The video you posted is just the tip of the iceberg. Dick Gregory is that dude.

Here's a place to start: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JgSymvZLpOw

yeah, i always watch the entire state of the black union because it's sooo good! too bad pinche obama wasn't there for the second year in a row that he has been invited. wtf? i could get over him not going last year, but i still don't understand why not. and people who shrug it off and say it's not a big deal... well, i don't understand them either.

It is great to hear straight talk. Direct and clear yet self-effacing and humble. Not to mention hilarious!

Thanks!

By amazing luck, I turned on C-Span just while Dick Gregory was speaking, but I missed this part. So, thanks for posting it.

While I recognize that the feeling Dick Gregory expresses is genuine, there's another side to this story. Racial politics were being used by the Obama campaign. It was not edifying, but it was politics as usual.

Oh man, did you see the clip where he talks about how people diss Dr. Rice by calling her "Condi," even though you never hear of another Secretary of State being called by a nickname? It is hilarious.

He was on fire throughout his whole address to the crowd.

This was awesome. Awe-inspiring. Nothing I haven't heard before, but he said it out loud, and that's what's important.

kick it, ése.
