The (Uppity) One

THE NOTION OF A BLACK MAN who holds his chin high, is not cowed by the craven and corrupt curses of our diseased political "discourse," nor the septic, slime-lipped attack dogs that need no whistle to howl; a man who seemingly shrugs off so many ugly barbs thus rendering the time-tested weapons leveled against him seemingly ineffective and (to these pundits, worse yet) himself "above the fray," absolutely freaks some people out. And the more power Barack Obama wields or exemplifies—whether that be manifested in the number of people he can inspire or in the number of small donors he can acquire—the greater an offense his longevity and power will be seen by these same people. And I think I speak of the people who over and over and over use the words "arrogant," "superior," "supercilious," "haughty," "grandiose," and "pompous." Because to my ears, this batch of words apparently new to the political landscape all rhyme with Uppity. As in "did I just see you eyeing that hhhhwhite house, bwah?" As in "how dare you dream of leaving Your Place behind?" As in keep your eyes on the floor, son.
But Barack Obama marches on, eyes toward the horizon and in plain view. Without once cowering or wincing or stooping or stopping. And how can I not find hope in such a thing?
update 2/28: two days later, fdl decides its time to call this "Uppity" stuff for what it really is.

That is the essence ¡nez! beautifully put and, the real question!
Big money backs McCain, the swift-boaters morphed into other diablos, they have taken on different forms. Money can do that. and Hillary likes it too.
Which brings me to the god-sent bush. I had had a thought, you know, a shower moment, and it dawned on me! he was sent by the gods to show us what evil is, and how it could and does manifest in real-life, like television and newspaper headlines designed to make the ideas stick in our heads. Maybe what he has been saying about his god-ordained presidency is in your-face code, eh! his devilishly "wiley-coyote" snickering is an anti-christ tactical manifestation! AND no one pays attention because its sooooo! well, out in the open, in-your-face?
Anything that can be done for Obama's campaign is a small but necessary step to the next step in the battle against evil. His reference to Madison, Wisconsin, as the birth place of the Progressive Movement was enough to convince me he is different. Xicanismo and progressive human development go hand in hand.

As an Uppity Negro, I recognize one of my own kind, which makes me draw closer to Obama and especially his wife, whom I suspect, doesn't nearly have the crossover tendencies of her husband, and is why she's such a target for the right wing. They can feel it too...LOL
What he's done hasn't even been quantified yet, and it's so shattering folks can't wrap their minds around it.
