Cherry Blossoms and Skye

IT HAS ALMOST BEEN A MONTH since Skye Budnick went missing. She traveled to Japan on the 2nd of April.
A 21-year-old female college student from the United States has been missing since arriving in Hokkaido on April 2, her mother and sister said Tuesday, asking Japanese people to come forward with any information they may have about her.Skye Budnick’s 54-year-old mother, Susan, and her 24-year-old sister, Megan, who arrived in Japan last Thursday, said she left their home in Southington, Conn. on April 1 for a trip to Hokkaido, leaving them a memo saying she would stay at a friend’s place there.
Megan Budnick said her sister had suicidal wishes and that they had also found a note at their home in which she said she wanted to end her life after seeing cherry blossoms in Japan.
Megan is a friend, we are both on the MTV Street Team that I've written about numerous times, and I met her in NYC for orientation/training. She stuck out in my mind because she was a very happy and friendly person. Good energy.
Got an email today and she sounds very healthy and positive, despite the news that she is back from Japan with no news of her sister, and the family is in a hard time period now because they are stuck in that limbo between hope and grief, not knowing if Skye is dead or alive.
Megan is leaving the Street Team, and that made me feel a little sad. I feel like (and I really don't intend any ghoulish kind of pun) I'm on Survivor Street Team 08 and I'm watching someone leave the island. We're a large bunch of very different people from very different places and backgrounds and ages, even. But we talk on the regular, we share the specific challenges and struggles of holding down this very intensive gig, we share tips from tech to narrative, and watching one of us walk away—even though it's very understandable that she cannot devote time to this right now—presents a noticeable absence.
Skye, wherever you are, I hope you find peace. I will send you my thoughts the next time I see cherry blossoms. And probably the time after that, too.

I have an idea of what Megan and her family must be going through. Ideally, Skye will turn up alive and well. If not, hopefully some closure rather than the limbo the family must be experiencing. They're in my prayers for whatever it's worth.
