They Break Laws to Make Laws

Categorized under Frontera , Parenting | Tags: , , , , , , , , ,

OH, but we're not really surprised, are we?

WASHINGTON — The Bush administration will use its authority to bypass more than 30 laws and regulations in an effort to finish building 670 miles of fence along the southwest U.S. border by the end of this year, federal officials said Tuesday.

Not to be snide, but shouldn't "authority" be in quotes?

Invoking the two legal waivers — which Congress authorized — will cut through bureaucratic red tape and sidestep environmental laws that currently stand in the way of the Homeland Security Department building 267 miles of fencing in California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas, according to officials familiar with the plan.

Feds to bypass laws to build border fence

After all, who really cares about the planet's health or those silly "environmental laws"?

Can it really be that we have a government department called the Homeland Security Department? Really? So it's not a bad joke?

Lately I feel like I'm stuck in a surreal world where the bratty, stupid, mean kids got lots of money and guns and now make up crazy rules and do all the vicious shit that once would have got them punished and kept after school. Except now, nobody's in charge to set things straight.

Oh well. Guess it's a free-for-all.

Residents and property owners along the U.S.-Mexico border have complained about the construction of fencing. In South Texas, where opposition has been widespread, land owners refused to give the government access to property along the fence route. The government has since sued more than 50 property owners in South Texas to gain access to the land.

Environmentalists have also complained about the fence because they say it puts already endangered species such as two types of wild cats — the ocelot and the jaguarundi — in even more danger of extinction. They say the fence would prevent them from swimming across the Rio Grande to mate.

"Unwilling to consult with local communities or to follow long-standing laws, Secretary Chertoff chose to bypass stakeholders and push through this unpopular project on April Fool's Day," Sierra Club executive director Carl Pope said in a statement. "We don't think the destruction of the borderlands region is a laughing matter."

Chertoff has said the fence is good for the environment because immigrants degrade the land with trash and human waste when they sneak illegally into the country.

Using Chertoff's logic, you know what would be real good for todo el mundo? If we put a triple-layered, laser-mounted, cement-sunk fence around all the fatcats like Bush and Cheney and Chertoff who don't care about destroying the planet or starving out the poor or the well-being of anything aside from their own crony-peppered circles because it is they—the elite, gross, bloated, greed-weighted faction of humanity that is a waste and a cancer on the surface of this beautifully-peopled ecomarble.

I've had that stuck in a bad joke experience for about 30 years now. Before that, in the sixties and early seventies, it was also bad, but one could tell it wasn't a joke.
The milieu now has moved from the tragic to the absurd. Clowns rule.
Those Latin American novels like "I, the Supreme" seem tame in this era.

It's the best they could do, because Ministerium für Staatsicherheit (Ministry for State Security, or Stasi) was taken.

ARG stupid government and it's obsession with fortressing the country! Last time I checked this wasn't medieval Europe or anything.

Also, I like how the EPA is trying to pass a law that allows big agriculture to keep the poo around the farms and not try to clean it up. So the gigantic wall is sort of in the same vein, I think.

I'm glad you're quitting. You were such a nuissance. Your leaving is an indication that that we've succeeded in defeating the reconquistas and advocates of open borders and illegal aliens.
