When Blackness Approaches Power

THE CONTINUED hypocritical attacks on Jeremiah Wright and Obama's name are disgustingly racist. Period. And the more I hear of this Pastor vato, the more I like him.

Speaking the National Press Club in Washington on Monday, [Pastor Jeremiah] Wright called the recent criticism surrounding his sermons "an attack on the black church".

"This is not about Obama, McCain, Hillary, Bill or Chelsea, this is about the black church," Wright said, speaking before the Washington press corps and an enthusiastic audience of black church leaders at the onset of a two-day symposium.

Obama's longtime pastor also took on those who characterize him as unpatriotic., taking a dig at the vice president in the process.

"I served six years in the military," Wright said. "Does that make me patriotic? How many years did Cheney serve?"

Wright pointed to congregants at his Trinity United Church of Christ who have served in the U.S. military, including Iraq and Afghanistan.

"My goddaughter's unit just arrived in Iraq this week while those who call me unpatriotic have used their positions of privilege to avoid military service while sending over 4,000 American boys and girls to die over a lie," Wright said. [...]

"Barack Hussein Obama," he said, emphasizing the Illinois senator's middle name dramatically. "Barack Hussein Obama, Barack Hussein Obama. There are Arabic-speaking Christians, there [are] Arabic-speaking Jews, Arabic-speaking Muslims and Arabic-speaking atheists. Arabic is a language, it is not a religion. Stop trying to scare folks by giving them this Arabic name like it's some disease." [...]

Clinton says she's having "fun," but her husband, according to a senior Clinton adviser quoted in The New Yorker, is "enraged. He doesn't like Obama," the adviser said.

Racial Tensions Threaten to Divide Democrats

I love Wright's fuego on this issue of anti-Arab sentiment.

So much of this is about Christians, Muslims, and Jews, isn't it? In the end? These wars, these hatreds...sure, they are about power, and land, and fuel, and fear and greed. And at the core of so much violence and hate—from the beginning of recorded history to now—is the idea of whose visualization of a deity is right. Isn't that some shit? So many believe in a greater being and what do we use that potentially transcendent idea for? For killing. For fearing. For the right to hate others and destroy them. This world just blows my mind sometimes. All the time.

Don't even get me started on the current USA political dialogue. That just blows.

I think what escapes most people (and really it is the traditional media) is that Jeremiah Wright was making political commentary (criticism). Contrast that with John Hagee, a "Christian" and a man that endorses John McCain (and the feelings are reciprocal). Hagee, with his virulent anti-Catholic rhetoric, attacks other Christians.

Of course, John McCain gets a free pass from the Bible thumpers, but neither Barack Obama, nor Jeremiah Wright do.

After learning that Mr. Wright had served as a corpsman/medic in Vietnam, I've got to place him head and shoulders above McCain in the "hero" category. While I don't advocate glorifying war in any way, but what Wright did was at least ethically and morally defensible, even honorable, compared to McCain's actions. I would shake Rev. Wright's hand, if he would so honor me, while McCain and I would not.

Let's just say that had Wright been my pastor, I'd still be going to church.

I might start going to church. This friend of mine showed up with a new Baptist Argentine boyfriend and he insisted on going to church. In Louisiana. I asked around for the best Baptist church and ended up in a place like Jeremiah Wright's. I cannot abide Christianity normally but this church expanded the universe and I am seriously thinking about returning. Not joining, just a return visit.

Where is the criticism for the "white-conservative power" theology that Hillary's religious advisor support? And I am not really trying to attack Hillary Clinton even though I would not vote for her! I personally got reservations for BOTH the candidates. I respect what they represent but I don't know about either one of them!I am just saying that if the media/press was as objective as it claims to be, both candidates would be called out for religious beliefs. As for REv. Wright's criticisms of the failings of the country-for the folks that don't like it-NEWSFLASH folks. Some of the criticism are valid!
