The Rush to Cruelty, the Climb to Liberty

At a fundraiser in Florida Thursday night, Barack Obama accused anti-immigrant crusaders Lou Dobbs and Rush Limbaugh of "ginning things up" to such an extent that there was a rise in hate crimes against Hispanics last year.
"A certain segment has basically been feeding a kind of xenophobia. There's a reason why hate crimes against Hispanic people doubled last year," Obama said. "If you have people like Lou Dobbs and Rush Limbaugh ginning things up, it's not surprising that would happen."
—Obama: Rush Limbaugh, Lou Dobbs Responsible For Rise In Hate Crimes Against Hispanics
REPORTEDLY, Rush responded with some tired snark about Obama hurting his feelings and clearly not being a "unity" type of person. A comment as funny as Rush is complex, and extremely appropriate when discussing hate crimes against raza if your brain is at least 84% cottage cheese.
Propz to the O man for bringing this up. Sadly, though, it's not just "hate crimes" being encouraged. It is plain ole hate, up and down the line.
It's not just Lou Dobbs we're worried about. He is a poison, it's true. He and Rush Limbaugh both are. They are spiritually-collapsed media stars, suckholes of sanity, from which no reasonable thought about migrants can escape. They shine down over those footsoldiers who crawl over the land still, delivering dominance on public streets and in rooms unsupervised. As too many events make clear, even the government-sanctioned ones cannot be trusted to be humane and merciful, let alone legal.
If government must exist, it must exist to protect and safeguard the weak and innocent. These are children and mothers and families and they need our protection. They need law forged in an understanding of libertad, of liberty. It's not just a statue with a torch. It is what any of us would want for our mother or child were they to wander past someone's sand-drawn lines in pursuit of their own food, prosperity, and happiness.
So, Senator Obama, I hope to hear more. I hope to see more. Not just on and about our tele-radio-infectors. But specifically, about those suffering in the grip of that same disgust and disdain and alienation, so many of whom make even our own meals possible. We can no longer pretend to be a civilized people when for our own comforts and way of life, we maintain a slave class.
That is why, once the facts are known, it is never only one group that wants justice and human rights for all people. It is all just and humane people.
