Thanks for posting Palast's work. The intentional and unintentional misreporting, marginalizing, and attempts to demonize the principals in the South American populist movement is a result of South America's shift away from US corporate control. The acceptance and belief that a sovereign nation should develop and control its own resources, for the benefit of it's own people, free from American dominance, is just downright Un-American! Eliminating American corporate control is the bud of an idea that the corporations and economic giants do not want to flower and flourish. A government "of the people, by the people, for the people" is w-a-y to revolutionary! Gotta' nip THAT idea in the bud!

they frustrate typical US tactics and framing. listen to the people gush about how they can have free operations and health care. look at how cheap their gas is. and look at him helping other latin american governments—THIS is what his opponents run on. that the socialist philosophy he has enacted much to the poor's benefit, should only remain in venezuela. its arguable, of course. that their wealth shouldn't help other non-venezuelans. but this is their idea of his weakest spot. that's a pretty good weakest spot. it's not being accused of lying your nation into an invasion, or approving torture, or opening secret prisons. he even helped americans out with fuel this last winter. while our own president is doing all he can to entrench class divisions and prevent the poor, all the peasants, all the proles (that's us amig@s) from thriving. hugo chavez is a fucking superhero next to that Miserable Failure.
