ODDLY, I see hardly an article today on the fact that Australia ended its combat presence in Iraq yesterday. I know Team Clinton is twisting in their feverdreams and threatening a more exciting example of Shock and Awe upon the Democratic party's chances of winning in November, so I understand the fixation. But don't mind me while I highlight this just for un momento:

BAGHDAD — Australian troops ended their main combat mission in Iraq on Sunday, handing over their responsibilities in southern Iraq to U.S. forces.

About 550 Australian troops, who served in a training and backup role to Iraqi forces in the provinces of Dhi Qar and Muthanna, made the transfer during a ceremony at a camp near Nasiriyah, said Capt. Chris Ford, a British military spokesman in southern Iraq.

Not without comment, either:

[Australian Prime Minister Kevin] Rudd told Australia's parliament earlier that all the arguments Australia used to justify sending troops to fight in Iraq proved to be wrong as he fulfilled an election-campaign pledge to bring them home.

Rudd, who ousted long-term conservative leader Howard last November, was fiercely critical of the process that took Australia into the war.

Rudd said he was particularly concerned about how the decision to go to war had been made, citing "the abuse of intelligence information."

He said there had been a "failure to disclose to the Australian people the qualified nature of the intelligence -- for example, the pre-war warning that an attack on Iraq would increase the terrorist threat, not decrease it."

Dana Perino told some lies in response, but nobody really cares.
