LiveBlogging Hillary's Concession Speech

LIVEBLOG:

keith olbermann introducing her...it feels like a sporting event with that voice.

like obama does in so many venues, now hillary finally gets the roaring 80s-styx-arena tsunami of applause superstar treatment from the audience...and it takes losing to obama to get it. how ironic. and by ironic, i mean sucky.

you can feel the emotion. she could probably let them cheer for fifteen minutes if she wanted to. she's uncomfortable standing there soaking it up. probalby a painful reminder, trying to move fwd into speech. first line feels really wooden as she tries to give it because its written to sound off the cuff,n ot spoken loudly over applause thats gone on too long...

okay, i almost felt ready to tear up until this speech. its cooling me off. she doesnt feel "live". i guess you'd have to protect yourself.

oh no not with the anecdotes of peeple smashing piggybanks or selling their mom's PS2 system for hrc's campaign already

"18 million voters." hunh. i bet all the Operation Chaos voters feel flattered.

i read such good reviews on this speech. this is boring.

allright. youtube part 2.

okay some booing over her saying elect obama, thats to be expected. people are cheering pretty loudly actually.

good, she's being gracious.

god this must be hard.

more boos for obama...

it feels so weird to hear her say all these good things about obama. when he did it in his concession speech it felt more natural, because he's launched less direct attacks. but this is 180º from her prior stance and it's pulling my brain out of my ear.

maybe thats why she waited four days. maybe it would have been too hard a U-turn for anyone to believe, even from a politician.

she's hitting her stride in this speech, now at 7 minutes into part 2. is it me, or has she in various times throughout this speech, been channeling obama? whoa, and no i dont mean like right there where she says "yes we can!" i mean in her diction.

obama will be the dylan of politicians...or the beatles or nirvana in that all politicians will be affected by his style.

this must be hard for some of her supporters. like that real serious looking dude who isnt cheering for anything.

"and thats why we have to elect barack obama our president!" holy hell that must hurt on some level. you have to admire the grit it takes to do this for sure. i dont admire some of her politicking, but this must be the hardest speech to give in the world.

whoops i spaced out and started reading emails. that's rude.

wow, the "my friends" line. odd. maybe she's channeling a host of politicians tonight.

seems now she's pushing "hope" and optimism again, after slamming such things not long ago. people are cheering wildly as if she's been championing it all along. i'm sure not trying to be a wet blanket, but i'm just having a bit of cognitive dissonance here.

i can still see how hard it is for her not to be the one to break the ceiling. she is touching the inside of that event, almost preemptively, talking of what it will mean, of how much closer we are now, connecting it to all the civil rights heroes and building up applause with lots of historical references...but its odd, its not what is happening. its what almost happened...

gotta be hard.

she's doing a great job at not encouraging her followers in the wrong direction. i think thats part of her tamping down the waves of applause when they rise too high, too. it would be tough. these people seem ready to storm castle walls if asked.

all i can think every time she pushes for uniting behind obama is if it sounds odd to me, it must really sound strange to her hardest core supporters.

summary, she didn't hold back a bit, and tried to sell obama with all her heart.

and yet i could see a tiny bit of her heart wasn't there at all. and you know, i think the confluence of the two observations makes me feel for her all the more.

good show, hillary. good job.

I LOVE your commentary.

I was thinking "what a poser" through the entire speech - you can tell that she tried to channel Obama's style of diction.

She must want that vp spot REALLY badly. ahaha.

i think all the rave reviews of this speech are half relief that she isn't going to try and tear the party down. dunno. i do feel for her getting so close, i know that's gotta hurt. but honestly? i'm so glad this primary is over, and i'm glad to see the clinton's second reach for the white house stymied.

Hillary could have had the nomination even given that Obama was a very formidable opponent. She and her team had the third rate strategy, she can debate a bit, people say, but she doesn't have the inspirational speech thing down.
She {and Mr. Bill} angered just enough of her followers {the brown and browner and the rest of the people that racism upsets} to sink her ship. This was a really close race that she should have won.
Finally, her screwing around for months and ignoring the obvious made her a whole new batch of real enemies. I did not see her speeches, neither the two this week nor any of them. But she really should have folded her tent in February.
I think she will have a very hard time getting re-elected in NY if she is challenged in the primary by a person who is seen as more sincere than she. And a Republican running against her can open some wounds too. She has a couple of years now to make nice and avoid losing the next election.
For her sake, she needs to do a better job of taking care of business and not alienating her constituency. Start voting against the Republican team, don't vote for more Iraq funding. Maybe she was just not cut out for the national scene due to her history and baggage. She could be an asset in Washington for NY for a long time to come, but now perhaps we may discover that the NY Senate position was just a stepping stone. Stay tuned.

people need to quit saying "the fabric of our lives"...I keep thinking they're doing a cotton commercial.
