The Grapes of Apathy

JUST DROPPIN' IN to point you to a new post today at The Sanctuary. It's called No Shade for Maria Isabel Vasquez Jimenez. It has to do with delicious grapes, heat over 100º, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and a dead baby that should still be alive and with mama. But isn't. Because we are putting too much national focus on swat teams, biometric ID tags, guns, walls, barricades and razor wire...and not enough on caring for those who are part of our economic engine and laying their heads down to sleep not so far from you and me.

Again, I invite any people concerned with human rights for all people—despite what papers they have stamped and at the ready—to join us at The Sanctuary. True, it's not a place where we talk about the latest FOX smear or McCain gaffe or Clinton tactic, but we feel the place serves a purpose and can do more with more hands and more minds. So come on by, join the community, post a diary or a comment, muse out loud, lend your strength and voice. At the very least, read about Maria Isabel today and why farmworkers are so moved by her tragic ending that 500 of them just marched 50 miles to demand safer working conditions.

Gracias.

I heard about this in the news, and it made me very upset, I myself come from a family of farmworkers and when I was younger my parents took me with them to the fields, in the summer it was very hot and in the fall when it was very cold in the mornings. The work people do in the fields if very hard, I know, because my parents started taking me during summer vacation to work in the fields instead of having an actual vacation, my mom would say, "Para que vean como me tengo que ganar el dinero", it showed me good work ethic, and I am very thankfull for that. Things like this upset me greatly and todos tienen que entender that thanks to people that work in the fields, we are all able to have food on the table.

kick it, ése.
