Tus Mensajes [Buena Gente]

Categorized under Blogando , Tus Mensajes | Tags: ,

AGAIN, I want to briefly say gracias to those who write in for various reasons. Sometimes I post the words of the oddballs (and I don't mean odd in a good way) who write in to me, but that is to remind myself and others of what is out there. I should stop and let you know, though, that I very much appreciate the words of support and offers of help or requests to speak (or for action figures!) that I also get. You're a great crew comin' around here from what I've seen, and I'm glad you take the time to write in with links and whatever else you send. And though I can take a while to get back to people as I do it in chunks (just finished a sweep, can ya tell?), I never mean to ignore anyone. If you've written about something that is time-sensitive, please don't hesitate to write again if the date is getting close and you've not heard from me. I know you don't want to harass anyone, and that's very cool. But sometimes email gets buried or chewed up by my schedule-perro or caught in the fan-blades of mi cabeza.

Hola! You might not be shy to express your opinions but it is easy to respect them because you do it with passion, certainty, wit and you backup your arguments. Estoy super orgullosa de ti! Keep showing them how it's done!

Liliana

Liliana, you sent this a month ago and I just found it again, set aside for later. Tu hable de la ciudad donde mi abuelita vivió! And you are hitting some of mis favoritos since then. Gracias por tu corazón y tu mensaje, put so beautifully in Español. (Clearly better than mine.) And it looks like I have one more thing to thank Frida for! Gracias, amiga. These are the emails that destroy the letters of ten haters!!! And often keep me going.

Hi Nezua, Your blog is great--don't ever apologize for your words!

I thought this would be of interest to you: Watch ICED – The Immigrant Shuffle ICED - Immigration video game launches today! Our nonprofit org - Breakthrough - has new video game on immigration.

ALSO, we have a new video trailer called, ICED- The Immigrant Shuffle.

Thanks again! Nicole

Nicole, gracias! I hope your game is very successful. I meant to post this much earlier, and in its own post. Forgive me. I plan to post on it again and give it more attention.

Here's another piece that I told someone I'd post a while ago.

Emailed with this message:

Hi Nez,

i was groovin' (and laughing) on this quote from House of Nezua when I
had a collision with my pointing homie, camera & laptop. Attached is the result for your enjoyment.

p.s. hope it's not weird...i didn't think i was a "fan art" kinda
person but anywayz....

I loved it! You make Internexia sparkle, K. And me laugh. That's a precious commodity.

My name is Shannon Heffernan. I'm the online community manager at Vocalo.org, a new radio station and web community based here in Chicago. I found out about your blog from the “Pro-Immigrant Blog Squad,” a meeting here in Chicago that is mobilizing folks to write about immigrant issues on the net. I was really excited to find your blog. I think you bring ideas, opinions, and perspectives that are much needed in the media. I would love to hear your material on air. [...]

Best, Shannon Heffernan

Stop Smiling: WBEZ Does it Again

———

Vocalo.org was started by Chicago Public Radio, WBEZ, a little over six months ago. But don’t be fooled, it’s not at all like your normal public radio. It's a new kind of radio, integrated with a web community. Users can post content (written, audio, or video) on our website (and really, anything goes). We then air this material on the radio, playing the audio or making audio versions of the written content. Right now we air in Northwest Indiana at 89.5 FM; by the spring we'll have a new 50,000 watt tower that will allow us to expand to cover all of Chicago. It's a brand new station making radio in a brand new way, and we hope you'll get in with us now, on the ground floor.

This is much longer, and has instructions on what to do as well as backstory of the project and site agenda. I can't be sure, but it sounds like it is open, so if that sounds cool to you (cross promotion, increase your readership), you may want to check that site out, see if it's for you. I'd love to do it, and plan to. It's that time thing right now holding me up.

Another:

I thought I'd bring this to your attention. I live in Atlanta. A commercial started running about 10 days ago that shows a black guy (I'm black) talking about how millions of jobs are being lost to illegal immigrants. As he talks, only black faces are shown in the video. I don't know if this ad is being shown in other cities, but I've never seen it before. It has aired 3 times in the last 10 days, and the next time it does I'll make a point to get the name of the sponsor. I can't help to think that in this Republican dominated state, some Karl Rove types are trying to stir the pot and create dissension as we head further into the campaign season. I smell old school divide and conquer tactics. For what it's worth.

Thanks, D. That's going on all over, isn't it? But we know that's how it's gonna be. Worse before better. But we'll get there. I always appreciate these.

The person I call "D" sometimes emails me in the spirit of bridging black and latino relations, and I appreciate this. This was sent to me a few months ago, actually. Next time, D, I'll get it up sooner! It's good to have eyes on this, though, so thank you.

The Nezua Action Figure lives on:

Hey how do i get one of your little action figures they are adorable i wanna get one for my Nino (not niño but my Nino - godfather). He would love it, he is super nice guy. I have been watchin ur mtv things those r great. it is good to have someone like u representin.

Big ups! Thank ya so much!

I've referred this person to the propa artista.

Finalmente, this just a few days ago:

My name is ---, and I came across your blog a few months ago. I have since referred several friends to it. My wife and i have lived in --- our entire lives, and my family has been on this land for over 400 years. So my political views normally differ from others in the state. Your blogs have struck accord for me and I want to thank you. [...] I truly believe it is voice's like yours that keeps the fabric together, and helps those like me feel not so out numbered. Thank you, ---

Thank you, my friend. This means a lot. And I truly believe that without cats like you coming around, I'd be nothing but a mad voice out here in the virtual wind. So thanks for coming around. (And for the Denver offer.)

I have many flagged emails in my box, though I do try to whittle them away as soon as I can. I am posting this bunch for a few purposes. Wanted to smile, wanted to let those people who have sent me their smiles know that they have arrived and bloomed, wanted to share some links, wanted to give you a peek at some of the UMX readership aside from the hate. Wanted to let you know that it is your feedback that often helps me navigate these winds, after all. And while I'm at it, thanks to my administratrix M., and all the guest bandit@s round here who bring their wicked skill sets to bear, on the regular.

Virtual relationships are sometimes a very abstract thing, but I feel pretty good about the types of people who seem to come my way out here. Buena gente.

Tus palabras verdaderas llaman mucho la atención de la buena gente, nezua. Your words fall well on good souls. It is for such people that the truth is like a warm light, but for the not-so-buena gente, it's a fire that burns away at their dry false faces.
